Shipwrecks around the world, revelations of the past

Between 2009 and 2011 a venue has been established in Chanthaburi, Thailand for capacity building in the field of Underwater Cultural Heritage Management (Fig. 1). This Regional Field Training Centre on Underwater Cultural Heritage was established under the UNESCO regional capacity building programme entitled, ‘Safeguarding the Underwater Cultural Heritage in Asia and the Pacific’. This paper describes the background, delivery and results of this three year project. In 2003, UNESCO decided to start a regional field school or a centre of excellence for the protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage.
